Oh my god. Sassy was the only thing in my life in the 90s that made me feel even remotely okay about myself! Seeing them again is a dream come true! (And if you ate old as balls, you are not alone. So. Am. I. And we are the bitchin'-est old as balls people around.)
i seriously geeked out when i saw this. somehow i think all my old mags are in a box in my hoarder mother's garage... any chance you have an issue where the "cute band alert" was toad the wet sprocket? i'd love to see that again.
I’ll look for that band alert! I should post more of those in general.
Full disclosure: the problem with some of my issues is sometimes pieces are missing from pages, I was probably doing some teenage scrapbooking (whee).
Super cool blog! I was an intern at 'Sassy' during my sophomore year of college (fall 1993-summer 1994). I met so many of my heroes, including Jane, Christina, Diane, Margie, Mary Ann, etc. I was able to work with Jane to write her editor's letter, about the interns, including Chloe Sevigny. And while there, I read the first issue of 'Nickelodeon,' where I wound up working for several years. Needless to say, it was a dream come true in many many ways! Anyway! Keep up the good work! Stay Sassy!
Thank you so much for the note - and you are absolutely lucky to have had such an experience in the print industry. To say that I’m jealous is an understatement. I would love to take the T.A.R.D.I.S. to the Sassy Magazine office in those years.
I’ll try to post some scans from your time there if I have ‘em!

Hey! Great tumblr! I've heard so many nice things about Sassy from The Style Rookie and Rookie Mag. IT REALLY IS THAT AWESOME. Do you know where (on the internet) I can buy some old copies of Sassy? Thanks :)
Sassy Magazines are becoming harder and harder to find. I’d just keep checking Ebay!
You mentioned a Twin Peaks fashion spread. Do you happen to know what issue it was in? I have all the issues from January '89 to the final "real" issue in '94.
First of all, LOVE that you know that it sucked post 1994. I actually have one or two issues in the post-suck years and yeah. The tone is just utterly different.
Second, someone did ask me for an Audrey-Horne-esque fashion spread but I checked all my copies, I must have chucked it out (damn you, past self). I can even see it in my head, they got a model who looked a lot like Sherilyn Fenn…but unfortunately I don’t know the year or month of this spread. My vague guess would be that it would be a fall/winter-ish 1990 issue when the show was very ‘hot’ - OR early 1991.
oh my god i'm in heaven. i was of the early 90s phase, and cancelled my subscription within two or three months of that horrible buy-out in 1994 or so. my longest running dream is to find a copy of a story (fiction) that ran in one of the issues. the protagonist was albino, and wore a Mr. Bubble tee in it. do you have it!?!?! LOVE this tumblr <3
I’ll look for your piece of fiction, dearest Tumblrina - you’re the first person to ask for me to look for fiction! Everyone requests the Twin Peaks fashion spread that I definitely do not have. :(
